The Community School exists through the kindness of people through contributions of time, money, and goods.
Everyone from youth to elder, student to alumni, neighbor to far-away supporter, is encouraged to join in this effort. You can get involved by making a donation of your time, talents, goods, or money. Every gift is an act of kindness that is much appreciated and used to improve the lives of our students and community.
Feel free to contact the school if you would like to discuss a contribution of any type. You may call 410-467-4920, email at Donations@tcshighschool.org or write to 337 W. 30th Street, Baltimore MD 21211.
A copy of the current financial statement of The Community School is available for viewing, or for the cost of postage and copies, by writing The Community School at 337 West 30th Street, Baltimore MD 21211 or by calling 410-467-4920. If you would like to give your time, please contact the school about volunteer opportunities. The school involves volunteers in activities ranging from tutoring to building maintenance and from fundraising to preparing food for the students. Click here to go to our Volunteers Page
The school accepts gifts of goods as well as services and cash. If you have an item to donate, check with the school or view items needed on the Wish List page. Click here to go to our Wish List Page
A gift of cash is the simplest method of contributing to the school. A donation of cash to The Community School guarantees that you will receive the maximum tax deductibility based on your tax status. Donations can be made through pressing the “Donate” button or by directly mailing a check made out to “The Community School” and addressed to 337 West 30th Street, Baltimore MD 21211. Recurring donations are an important source of stability and support for our program.
If you wish your gift to count in a given year, it must be postmarked by December 31. For those tax filers who itemize, outright gifts of cash are fully deductible for federal income tax purposes up to fifty percent of your adjusted gross income. If by some chance your giving to charities during the year should exceed this limitation, the excess donated may be carried forward and deducted for tax purposes for up to five additional years.
A gift of long-term appreciated securities is very beneficial for the School and especially you, the donor. A gift of this type offers you at least two tax savings.
First, you are not required to pay any capital gains tax on the gains realized with your stock. Second, you receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock on the date of your gift. For income tax purposes, you may deduct up to thirty percent of your adjusted gross income and take an additional five years to take these deductions should you exceed the adjusted gross income allowance.
The Community School is registered with the Baltimore City Combined Charity Campaign (Agency #3722) and the Maryland Charity Campaign (Agency #52-1278291). Also, if there is a United Way Campaign at your workplace, you can direct it to the programs of TCS by writing in The Community School under “Other health and human service agency” on the back of the pledge card.
Many corporations offer to match gifts donated by their employees to nonprofit organizations. Some corporations will even double or triple an employee’s contribution. The process is usually very simple and may be accomplished with one phone call. Please contact your Human Resources Department to inquire about a matching gift program.
“I am involved in the Community School because my time here is so well spent and the results are measurable and concrete. A dollar contributed here goes much further than anywhere else I have given or devoted my time.” Thomas J. Iacoboni
